Day 5

You have now seen for yourself that Barcelona has plenty of attractions for an extended stay. How many days? Wait till you hear about some of the nearby excursions we’re about to recommend before you decide.

Cable car at Montserrat
Cable car at Montserrat

Montserrat

This excursion combines nature and culture. It takes about an hour and a half to get there and we suggest taking the 'cremallera' train because it takes you through a beautiful mountainous landscape. In Monserrat, take the cable car, visit the monastery and enjoy the surroundings.

Portaventura ride

PortAventura

A great theme park with exciting rides, fun shows and a wide range of leisure and catering options for spending an unforgettable day with the family. It is 100 kilometres from Barcelona.

Roman amphitheatre, Tarragona
Roman amphitheatre, Tarragona

Tarragona

This is a 100% cultural excursion to one of the main centres of the Roman Empire that remains intact in Spain. You will visit a set of monuments that has been designated a World Heritage Site and includes a great amphitheatre and Roman circus among other attractions.  It is next to the PortAventura theme park and is 15 kilometres from Reus, the birthplace of Gaudí, the architect whose work you have got to know so well in Barcelona. Here you can visit the Gaudi Centre, dedicated to the artist.

Cala Canyellas cove, Roses

Costa Brava, Mediterranean paradise

If you have ever seen idyllic postcards of the Mediterranean, we can assure you that they look a lot like the places you’ll find along this coast. It begins about 75 kilometres from Barcelona and extends through towns such as Begur, Pals and Roses.

Salvador Dalí Museum, Figueres
Salvador Dalí Museum, Figueres

Dalí's Triangle

Salvador Dalí is the great master of surrealism and he was born in the heart of the Costa Brava, in Figueres. We recommend visiting this town, Cadaqués and Púbol to complete the famous Dali Triangle and discover the life and work of this world famous artist. In each of these towns there are museums and centres dedicated to the painter and the three municipalities are less than an hour apart by car.

Bid farewell to the city looking out to sea

Make your last night in Barcelona a night to remember with a dinner with sea views, and celebrate being here in a fitting way. We suggest two options. On the one hand, Port Vell, with numerous open air terraces in summer and spacious establishments with views the rest of the year. You will find a great range of food, good music and people keen to have fun. On the other hand, the Port Olimpic offers a more sophisticated ambience, with restaurants, discotheques and even a casino by the sea.
