Ruins of the San Juan de Acre Hospital
La Rioja
It was founded around 1185 as a hostel and to provide aid to pilgrims. Archaeological excavations began on the site in 1990. Findings included the main walls of the old hospital and of a large church with a floor plan in the shape of a Latin cross, and a cylindrical tower with a spiral staircase. One of the most important archaeological findings was the series of four burial sites.
