Oropesa Castle
Oropesa
A Christian military fortress
The whole site lies inside the defensive walls surrounding the old town of Oropesa. It is now a Parador hotel.
This is a 13th-century four-sided Christian castle built in stone. It had four circular towers of which two are still standing. It is part of the Count’s Palace complex, which comprises various buildings and defensive walls. The remains of Roman and Moorish fortifications were also found at the site. The most outstanding buildings are the palace of Doña Elvira, in the Gothic-Mudejar style, and the palace Álvarez de Toledo family, dating from the 16th century.
