Parque del Clot

Barcelona

This is a 4-hectare park created on industrial ruins in which the double archway of the old Renfe railway workshop has been converted into an aqueduct whose waters run romantically down the sides of the arches in a sheet of water giving the whole area a sheen of antiquity as an anchor in an area of rather disorderly urban growth. Situated below street level is the sculpture Rites of Spring, by Bryant Hunt, like a little bronze waterfall, with the water held up for a time in a small, square tank only to pour out along narrow canals. With the aim of offering green surfaces covered with plants that stand up to intensive use, plants have been brought from the south of France that are adapted to Barcelona's climatic conditions and these have been very suitable for use in the park, contrasting well with the fragile, delicate mimosas and flowering shrubs planted up the slopes which border the path.
