Helen Frankenthaler. Painting with no rules

Exhibition - Painting
Bizkaia

Through a series of works she created between 1953 and 2002, the exhibition invites us to explore Helen Frankenthaler's revolutionary approach to painting, which would make her one of the most innovative artists of the 20th century.

Her groundbreaking “soak and smear” technique, based on the correlation between colour, space and form, set a new course in modern painting. Frankenthaler used brushes and sponges or poured and spread paint from buckets to create original colour combinations distinguished by their translucent overlays and veiled transitions. The exhibition also reflects the contemporary artistic affinities and influences of figures such as Jackson Pollock, Morris Louis, Robert Motherwell, Kenneth Noland, Mark Rothko, David Smith, Anthony Caro and Anne Truitt.
